Lots of questions (was: Coming back after fifteen years...)
« on: November 11, 2020, 05:49:22 PM »

Hi all, after taking a fifteen year break I'm going to hit the track (well hopefully not HIT the track) in 2021.  Over the winter I'm going to to buy and prep a bike and make sure my old gear is up to snuff.  With that in mind, is there a post in the forums or a page on the website that outlines the specific requirements for bike and gear?  Thanks in advance for your guidance.   :tiphat:

Never mind, I found it.  It's on the main page, in the upper right in small letters: Policies   :rtfm:

Thank you for the warm welcome gentlemen.  I'm getting a tow vehicle set up on Monday, a trailer on Tuesday, and I believe Milkman and I have a deal for his 750.  I am looking forward to meeting you all in March.

I bought this back protector in 2001 or 2002 and ran it for two seasons.  Is it still acceptable to use it today or should it be replaced?

I personally would buy a new back protector. The technology has advanced a good bit since 2002 and a newer back protector will be more comfortable to wear and protect better. Heads and spines are two areas where you don’t want to skimp on the gear.

Have to send the first one back (yep, STG got it here that fast!) and am now looking at an Alpinestars Nucleon Level 2 protector that fits into the back pocket of an Alpinestars suit.  Is that type acceptable, or does it have to be the kind that straps directly to your body?

I prefer the ones that strap to your body as I think they are longer than the ones that fit in the suit pocket. Nothing wrong with the protector being in the suit, I would just check and make sure you aren’t compromising on coverage to use the one that goes in the pocket.

I wear the A star KR3. But I don’t use the over the shoulder straps as they actually make it harder to get in and out of the suit. I also ditched the armor on the side which I think makes it the same protection as the KR1.

Thank you sir!  And with that, I believe my gear and bike are sorted and ready to go.  Now it's just a matter of waiting impatiently for March 29.

It's not going to be easy is it.   :banghead:

RocketDan, thank you for all of your help.  I am grateful for this forum, and for the opportunity to get good answers before showing up at the first track day.   :tiphat:

Question #4 of 87000:
Following the recommendation of a guy on the WERA forums, I got this RAM steering-stem mount for the Gixxer.  This mount is pretty solid and I am confident that it is not going anywhere.  Having said that, will it pass tech?  If not, what else needs to be done to secure the camera?

Oh, and before anyone objects, the mount does not block your view of the instruments.  Here's a picture taken from the riders point of view with the GoPro mounted.  You can't even see it in your field of view.
