R6 Lap timer mount?
« on: April 09, 2020, 10:57:34 AM »

Hey friends that run R6s with a lap timers,

What are you guys using as a mount for the timer? Is it a good idea to mount a timer ontop of the triple? Wasnt sure if adding weight onto the top of the triple would have any ill effects to steering input...

Im using the SOLO 2 and the only mount they offer doesnt fit my bike since I changed out my OEM triple. I'm thinking I could prob fabricate a new bracket for my triple but I wanted to see if anyone had a good idea or a place to mount their timer before getting started.

I have mine mounted right on the shock tube at the top of the tripple tree.  No ill effects that i know of.  Mine is a moto-d so i not sure of the size comparison.

Oh cool, I can check that out. Would you have a picture of the mount?

Like this Lee. Not an R6 but this should work on your bike too. This is an old XT mount but the MotoD is pretty much the same thing I believe.

Those fork tube mounts are hard to find lately.

You could go with a mount that mounts to the hole in the triple steering stem via a large well nut.

I have a few of these left over with a few different size well nuts.

I ended up making a few of these. You drill top triple. Put in a time sert. Then mount the magnetic stock mount to the piece circled in the pick

Thanks for the replies John and Ruhe!

John, I just looked up the one from MotoD, looks really nice but its a bit expensive at 75$. Ill def keep that in mind if I cant come up with a cheaper solution.

Ruhe, I really like the bracket that you have, Ive been trying to look for something like that since my triple has an open screw slot on the top (almost exactly like your picture). Would you know where I can get one of those brackets? Im pretty sure I could make that work for my triple.

Thanks!!

Can you post a few picks of your triple top clamp. It’s just a machined piece of aluminum 90 deg you can get at Home Depot

Yeah just get a foot section and I just trimmed on side down to make mounting tab. Drilled a hole. Then drilled and tapped the side that lays over the top side of the triple.

Awesome, this would save me from having to fabricate the bracket like I thought I would. I will def give this a shot!

Thanks of the tip Mike!!
