How many of you?
« on: January 16, 2020, 04:48:57 PM »

So, how many of you are excited to start the new season?  How many of you are completely ready yet?  Got all those bike mods done, trailer ready to go, all your stuff for your new pit set up ready to go, bike all clean and looking good?  What's that?  You still have last years dirt on your bike and you haven't done a thing?  Naa not anyone here.  LOL  Well how many of you have checked out the "Ask Max Speed" section at the bottom of this forum?  Well you should.  There is some good info down there on how to prepare for the upcoming season and make it a good one.  As far as bike prep and stuff goes.  The riding well and not crashing bit that is on you.  However by following the simple steps in the Max Speed section it could go a LONG way to helping with the better riding and less crashing department by just simply have less down time and more confidence in your machine.   Go check it out

Just dropped suspensions on both bikes for a little freshness.
Unfortunately the A bike was totally rebuilt during the season for some reason.
B bike has had all chassis work done

Calipers need a scrub
Hang some new snazzy bodywork on both bikes. Hell I even went to the trailer today and ran the generator like you should.

Oh both bike clutch fibers replaced.

Chains replaced.

Jim. What say you on longevity of a 520 chain on a modern sport bike. 30 days 60?

All I know breaking a chain sucks.

Mike  Depending on what type of bike, 600 vs 1000 and how hard you are on the throttle.  Of course the brand and quality of the chain will make a difference obviously.  I always inspect my chain and look at the rollers and see if they are loose.  I don't do as many days as I used to but when I did, I put a new chain on every season.  The results of breaking a chain are usually far more costly than replacing a chain.
I would venture that someone doing a full season on a 1000, that is hard on the throttle, should replace their chain once a season.  If you are running an aluminum sprocket those need to be changed on the regular as well.
Keeping up with the cleaning and the lubing of the chain will ensure the longest life of your chain and sprockets.  Once again the whole keeping your bike clean and inspecting it on a regular basis.  We are going fast out there and these are basic safety precautions.

Yeah no doubt a $120 for a new chain is cheap compared to cases or a foot!!!!!!!

How often do you rebuild your brake calipers? Have they ever been rebuilt?

I rebuilt mine last winter and thought I’d do it every other season. Once I got to replacing my pads and inspecting everything, I realized this needs to be an every season maintenance item. Time to order some seals. Puts me back a little, it will be worth the extra time when I start braking for turn one at VIR.

Yep because stopping is like super important!  Not just for you but the other people around you.  More folks should be doing this and if they don't know how they should take their bike somewhere and get it done!
