At one point, people used to shave their tires for track(car) and autox.  They would cut them down to the min tire depth allowed. There are two reasons for that.  The one I believe is that the tread blocks create squirm and this removed some of the squirm.  The other would be that as you got close to the carcass, you get more grip assuming it has not been heat cycled out.

Your comment made me however think of the worlds fastest indian where the guy was putting shoe shine on his tires to fill in the dryrot.

I would store bike with tires off the ground. You really don’t want a winter of cement contact and flat spots.
