Zipper Issues
« on: December 12, 2017, 09:08:08 AM »

Here at TSG, we are busy working on cleaning, conditioning and repairing leathers for the upcoming season -  which brings me to the topic of this discussion.

The body salt left behind on your gear's zipper can really cause serious damage in a very short period of time.
Take a look at these photos. Can you see the metal actually being eroded  away?
Now is the time to check your leathers for this kind of breakdown.  If you do see a turquoise crusty build up on your zipper, you can use a good de-salting solution and an old toothbrush to remove it easily before it eats away the metal completely.
Then we recommend using a good zipper lube or you can apply a little bees wax or vaseline to the zipper pull, then work it in with a few pulls.

We hope this tip helps to preserve and take good care of your leathers.

Happy Holidays!

Thanks for the tip. You can also use a solution of water and vinegar to de salt the zippers.
I have used that and then applied a little WD40 and just worked the zip a bunch until Free and easy.
Excellent tip though as last week I started my Gear refresh work and first think I did was unstick salty zippers.

I use Chap Stick on all zippers a few times a season to keep it all working smoothly and keep the bad stuff away. Choose a scent you like!
