Title: Best place to find track bikes for sale?
Post by: boike333 on November 11, 2020, 03:54:18 PM
Can anyone point me in the direction of where to buy a track specific bike? I am trying to figure out if I should do suspension and brake upgrades to a SV or sell it and buy a machine already done. Which is way saves money? Want to stay with the SV platform.

There are a few FaceBook groups that are track related. TDJ Motorcycles, Parts and Accessories is a common place for people to post track ready bikes for sale.

It’s usually less expensive to buy a bike that’s already setup than to build it yourself. But you may be able to buy the parts used and build your own bike. A lot depends on how serious of a race bike you want to make it.

Of course buying an already set up bike a lot less fun. Plus building your own you never have to settle for others poor component choices.

Despite some of the comments above  :D

There are some good machines out there for sale that are already setup. I think you need to look at the seller and their history in the sport, and how they maintain their bikes. Track riders can be an interesting mix of some of the best and worst maintained bikes out there.

I will have a 2009 R1 for sale here shortly, plan on selling as a base bike with plastics and clipons, then you can add in suspension, wheels and other goodies depending on what your target spend will be. PM if you have any questions

And clearly wasn’t referring to any already built bike that I built / helped build originally .

In fact I too will be selling an already set up bike but I think I have a buyer already.

OK, thanks for the input 52 and Kyle. Just looking around I can tell there is anything from Motoamerica bike builds to things that look like they should be binned for good out there. My original plan when I got my SV was to do an occasional track day and then ride it on the street too so I got the unfaired model with more upright handlebar/triple set up and now want to go the other direction because this whole track day thing is a lot more addictive/fun/inspirational then I had imagined.

Kyle the R1 is well above my skill level at this point, I’d kill myself with that much power.

If you here of anyone with an SV or 600/750 in good condition point then my way please.

You should also check the for sale section of the PRE site.

One of our own CR's, Andy 'Milkman' Crossman, has/had a 750 up for sale. Andy takes really good care of his bikes too. You should check it out

Has the buyer put his name on it yet?

Thanks, I guess I need to proofread my post before posting! Stupid auto correct!

I’ll have to reach out to him and ask if it’s still available, and what time frame he is in. I would have to sell the SV and my DRZ first, this track thing isn’t cheap!

So if a really well sorted Gen 2 SV track prepared with great bodywork and spare wheels came on the market for a decent number you would be interested?

K Tech fork carts and Ohlins rear shock. M4 exhaust with Shark Skinz bodywork painted by a great painter. Rearsets clip ons and engine protection.

Oh and fast Frank axles and captive spacers.

Something like that have any appeal?

I can't like this enough!!!

OH - and before I forget, boike333, assuming Ruhe is referring to a RM650 (as all his builds are referred) that would also be a strong
contender if you want to stay with an SV platform.
