Florida Man Incident…News at 10:00.
« on: November 05, 2021, 06:22:34 PM »

Hey, everybody.

This is my new guy post in the new guy forum.

Stumbled my way onto PRE at VIR North in June 21 on my way back from a Yamaha Champ School.

Was so impressed with PRE that I jumped at the chance to ride again with you guys at CMP in August 21.

Big thanks to Taylor, Nicole, Monkey Man, Spinak and Knitter for the warm welcome and coaching at those events.

Big thanks to John A. and Mike R. for your leadership in the motorcycling community.

PRE is well worth the drive up from Florida and I’m not bashful about telling folks down here that how PRE runs a track day is what right looks like.

Got the 2022 schedule a few hours ago and already pasted all the dates into my calendar.

Hope to see you guys at VIR North in March!

Welcome to the family!
It really is such a great feeling when you finally find your people.

Spring can’t get here soon enough.

Welcome to PRE Brenden. We're super happy that you've found what you've been looking for. There are lots of flavors to choose from these days and it's always nice to hear from the people who believe PRE tastes the best.

Good seeing you again at our last CMP event Brenden - but too bad you had to head back to FL and didn't ride with us. It was a blast!!

Looking forward to riding with you again in 2022 and hope you get everything sorted with the Duc!

Happy offseason and remember - making Braaaaap noises for no reason in particular is always OK with our people.

Thanks, everybody!

Yeah, got the Ducati 959 “Pan of Noodles” back together this week after a tug of war with Ducati NA (they helped in the end) and several months waiting on replacement parts that WSBK teams use.  OEM plastic water pump gears…what was Ducati thinking?  Lesson learned - I should’ve courted the Japanese girl next door instead of getting distracted with an Italian supermodel.

At Homestead-Miami Speedway next weekend (first time) to get reacquainted with my track bike and to learn the racelines.

Also going to hit Palm Beach International Raceway this “winter” before it closes permanently in April 2022.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome (again!).

Glad to hear DucNA stepped up!

So were you able to actually get real metal impellers fitted? Share some knowledge here - it might be helpful to others.

Have fun with the new-to-you tracks!

After the bike, with scarcely 600 miles on it, overheated at VIR North in June 2021, I headed home to Flor-duh.  Got bike to operating temperature, fan kicked on but exhausted air was cool. Assumed thermostat failure was preventing circulation.

Dropped off bike at EuroCycles of Tampa Bay.  Technician diagnosed the water pump weephole is losing fluid, surefire sign the water pump has failed.

ME: Kinda early in the bike’s life, doncha think?

TECH: Not uncommon.  Parts and labor $1400.

ME: Hang on…hunh?

Bike had just been in for 600 mile service at same dealer in early June 2021 in prep for YCRS and VIR North.   Time of problem was late June 2021.  Got the bike into the shop in early July 2021.  Warranty had just expired in May 2021.

ME: Any Ducati goodwill here, fellows?

Dealer tried and was told nope.  In Italian English, that would probably sound something like “Imma sorry but thass-a grande noppio”.

< cue head shake in disgust >

ME: OK, let’s get on with the blood-letting.

Tech took water pump cover off and found the below.

TECH: Estimated bill now $2400 to get all the exploded bits of plastic out of the lubrication path.

< cue Slim Pickens voiceover >

ME: Now just hol’ on a gol durn cotton pickin’ minute right thar!

More to follow…
